The Wharton Crowdfunding Study

Understanding the impact of crowdfunding on creators, backers, and society

Conducted by Prof. Ethan Mollick of the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania, with the support of Kickstarter.

The Wharton Crowdfunding Study is the largest academic effort seeking to understand how crowdfunding works, how effective the Kickstarter community is at bringing new creative projects to life, and what the economic and social impact of those projects are on culture. We are surveying many of the project creators on Kickstarter, as well as some of their backers, to find out the answer to these and many more questions.

Information about the study, why it is so important, and how we keep your answers confidential…

Some of the research I have done on crowdfunding, both as an example of what we are trying to accomplish and what is known so far…

Everyone who fills out the survey and requests one will get a report of the results, but Kickstarter has also donated 100 prizes to be randomly given away to respondents.  You can find information about them here…
